Why does Pho smell and taste like dirty feet?

I like it, don't love it because of the strong anise flavor which is not my favorite. I do love cilantro but understand why people don't like it - and I have a low tolerance for picky people - but will give them a break on this one. It is a strong spice, like fresh basil, that you can't expect everyone to love.
