Does taking off the drm protection off dvds make the original dvds ruined?

i rented a movie from rogers video one day and i have to return it back in 7 days but i want a copy for my self. So if i take off the drm protection and burn a copy will the rogers people know i made i copy of their disc. Will the original disc get effected. also if i do take the drm protection off . what is the best program to do it and a program that has a free trial
